Thunderbird And Windstar Suck

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Ford wants us to believe that the new toronto airport limo is true to the heritage of its classic forebears and represents good value for its cost. Unfortunately, this Thunderbird proves just the opposite. Head restraints are rated Poor by IIHS, the official launch and delivery was delayed several times because of factory-related problems, the base MSRP is double what a Thunderbird cost just a few years ago, and the car will soon get the axe. Just the thing to boost our confidence in the product, eh?

Will Thunderbird 2 be a collector’s car? Not likely. The only collectors I can imagine will be those Ford Oakville executives who are taking early retirement and were refused a Volvo.

Windstar, one of the most unreliable minivans you’ll find, last seen on the market in 2003. The Monterey is Freestar’s Mercury twin. Strong points: Easily negotiated prices; nice array of cabin appointments; easier rear access; flat-folding third-row seats; good cargo capacity; large brakes that should improve pad and rotor durability; and impressive crashworthiness ratings.
